Community Partner Spotlight: Cincinnati Youth Collaborative

The Cincinnati Youth Collaborative is a non-profit mentoring agency in Cincinnati.  Founded over 30 years ago, they have helped over 180,000 children in Cincinnati.  Their mission is to empower vulnerable children and young adults to overcome obstacles and succeed in education, career, and lifeThey partner with schools in Cincinnati Public, Winton Woods, North College Hill and Norwood. By pairing a child with a caring adult mentor CYC can help them reach their full potential.  Many of the children face hardships such as poverty, hunger, homelessness, single parent homes, and encounters with law enforcement.  CYC has programs for children at every level from elementary to college, including career preparation and college readiness.  Children in  the mentoring program demonstrate better school attendance, performance, and graduation rates.

In 2001 Dr. Wan Lim at the UC College of Medicine started UC Med Mentors, a CYC mentoring program pairing medical students with local CPS school children.  Since her retirement, Dr. Charles Cavallo from Pediatric Associates has been the President of the Advisory Board, working behind the scenes to help with fundraising and event planning.  He was honored at a recent National Philanthropy luncheon hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Cincinnati Chapter.

Mentoring is one way to help children overcome obstacles.  There is a  lot of science that shows hardships in childhood have long lasting detrimental effects not only on mental but also physical health.  We hope that you join us at Pediatric Associates in celebrating and supporting CYC on Giving Tuesday (November 28).
