Acute Flaccid Myelitis - What You Need to Know

We have been getting calls about acute flaccid myelitis, a rare but scary polio-like condition resulting most likely from a virus. Apparently there is a case at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  According to the CDC the condition results from inflammation in parts of the brain and spinal cord.  Key symptoms are muscle weakness, slurred speech, drooping eyelids or difficulty moving the eyes.  If you see these symptoms in your child please contact us and we can see them in the office and take appropriate steps.  We may recommend further tests or referrals.
For more information please see the article here from the CDC.
