Talking to Children About Racial Bias

Children learn about racial differences and racial bias from an early age and learn from their first teachers—their parents—how to deal with and react to these differences. An article from Healthy Children tells us how children learn racial bias, strategies to help children deal with racial bias, how parents can confront their own racial bias, and tips for talking about racial differences and racism.

August KACO Post: Food for Thought

Canada released its new “food plate” this year and it is a major departure from previous iterations. An evidence-based reformulation, the new plate boils down food into three groups: fruits & vegetables, whole grains and protein sources. It also drives the importance of water in diet and stresses the health benefits of plant-based protein.  While we can quibble about messaging and graphics, the new Canada plate is a step forward because it acknowledges data in nutritional practice.

Pediatric Associates Welcomes Michael Janensch, PA-C

We are looking forward to welcoming the newest provider to the Pediatric Associates family, Mike Janensch. Mike completed his Physician Assistant training at DeSales University in Center Valley, PA and most recently worked in a rheumatology practice in Petoskey, MI.  But Mike is returning to his roots by joining us.  He initially planned on pediatrics as his chosen field and also grew up in Kentucky.  Welcome home, Mike!

    Employee Anniversary

Congratulations to our MA Pam Wolfe on being with our PANK family for three years! Thanks for all you do!

    Upcoming Flu Clinics

We will be conducting flu vaccine clinics again this year on Saturday mornings from 8am until 1pm at Crestview Hills down under on October 5th, 12th, 19th, and November 16th. Please call the office or use the Patient Portal to set up an appointment time.

Due to production issues and limited national supply the flu mist will not be available.

We ask that you dress your child in short sleeve shirts, the morning you come to the clinic. You will be asked to fill out a flu consent form for each child.

Dermatology available at Pediatric Associates Starting July 19th!

We are excited to announce that Dr. Kara Shah will be working at our Cold Spring office one day a month.  Dr. Shah is a board certified pediatric dermatologist with her own practice in Kenwood. Prior to starting her practice she was the Director of Dermatology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

If you would like to see Dr. Shah please call our office to start the referral process. If we have already seen your child for the issue, we can send her a referral.  If we have not seen your child for the issue in question we can see you in the office to determine if we can help with the problem and if not we will refer you to her.  We expect to always be able to get you in with Dr. Shah sooner than with other dermatologists in the area.

    Expanding Check-Up Hours

We know how challenging it can be to squeeze in all the responsibilities that you and your family have. Our patients have asked for more availability for school and routine check-ups later in the day and we heard you! Pediatric Associates is proud to announce that we have availability for Tuesday and Thursday evening check-ups in the Crestview Hills office.

    Parenting Corner

It’s back to school time! This might be a welcome relief for some, and others can’t believe the summer is already over. If school has already started or about to start, recognize the need for down time to get readjusted to the routine. School can be exhausting for some, so allow space to decompress and get plenty of rest. If you are having a hard time getting back into a good sleep schedule, try to adjust your bedtime by 15 minutes earlier every few nights.

If you have questions or concerns about back to school transitions, you can join us for Facebook Live on August 30th at noon. This month, Emmaly Meier, who is a Licensed Psychological Practitioner will be joining Kerry, our Parenting Specialist. They will be available to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
