COVID-19
COVID-19 UPDATE
JULY 2022
Since the beginning of the COIVD 19 pandemic Pediatric Associates has been working hard to adjust to the needs of our patients and community. We are following all relevant guidelines in terms of cleaning our offices and using appropriate protective equipment. All of our staff has received the COVID 19 vaccine.
In terms of prevention we support the use of masking indoors, social distancing, hand hygiene and vaccination for those eligible. We are currently giving the Pfizer vaccine by appointment for ages 5-11 and 12 and older. We also have the Moderna vaccine for 6 months to 4 year olds.
We are testing patients in our office both symptomatic or asymptomatic by appointment. We have a rapid antigen test which we run in the office. We can also perform swabs for the PCR test at Cincinnati Children's which takes 24-48 hours for results. We recommend using our Patient Portal or Cincinnati Children's MyChart so you can print out your results. A rapid positive rapid test is reliable. A negative rapid test in someone with a close contact and symptoms may benefit from a confirmatory PCR test.
Testing options for families in need of ‘screening-for-participation’ are available throughout the region. Here are links that may help older children or teens who need screening testing for recreational events or sports participation.
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association along with the Kentucky Medical Association has updated their guidance on returning to sports after COVID-19 infection, with the potential reduction of isolation from 10 days to 5.
The easiest way to count this is:
- Day 0 is the first day symptoms occurred or a positive test if asymptomatic.
- Day 5 is the last day of isolation.
- Day 6 is the first day that the athlete could potentially return.
Athletes also cannot be cleared to return in KY until they have met the following criteria: All symptoms (cough, shortness of breath, fever (≥100.4F), etc.) have resolved for at least 24 hours for mild cases or 7 days for moderate cases without the use of fever-reducing medication. We can see you for the clearance exam on Day 5 or 6 as above. For example: Let's say you have symptoms on Monday. We can see you in the office on Saturday and you can return to practice on Sunday.
