Rachel Knuehl, LPCC
I am a licensed professional clinical counselor with over 10 years of experience helping children, teens, and families to meet life's challenges. I have experience with early childhood, school-age, and adolescent youth, young adults, caregivers and families. I utilize evidence-based treatment practices to address trauma, anxiety, depression and mood disorders, dual diagnosis, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, behavior problems, anger, parental divorce/ separation, panic, grief, and more. I am competent working with kinship, foster, and adoption related issues. I am a nationally certified counselor through NBCC.
I am certified in parent child interaction therapy (PCIT) , an evidence-based therapy model designed for children ages 2-7 and their caregivers to increase healthy attachment and decrease problem behaviors including aggression, opposition, and similar. In PCIT I coach caregivers to use play therapy skills so they are able to build and strengthen healthy, trusting relationships with their children. PCIT teaches age appropriate discipline skills and increases child compliance within your home.
Additionally, I am also certified in trauma focused- cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). This evidence-based treatment model is empirically supported for use with young people ages 3-17 who have experienced trauma(s). Trauma could include grief and loss, parental separation; physical, verbal, or sexual abuse; parental incarceration, exposure to parental substance abuse or untreated mental illness, to name a few. TF-CBT has three phases, teaching practical coping and relaxation skills, psychoeducation, and a trauma narrative with desensitization techniques. TF-CBT encourages co-joint sessions with caregivers throughout the treatment model. Therefore, caregivers are learning alongside their child and better able to support them outside of therapy sessions.
I help caregivers, children, and teens learn practical skills for managing intense or uncomfortable emotion, as well as life's stressors and transitions. My theoretical framework is an integrative approach to therapy combining humanistic, gestalt, existential, feminist, and motivational interviewing models that meet the unique needs of each individual client. I combine multiple counseling models and theories to meet each individual's specific needs.
