Behavioral Health Services

We are so glad that we are able to provide behavioral health services in our office. We have four full time counselors that see patients at all of our three locations. The demand for these appointments has been high. Like other behavioral health providers in the area we currently have a waiting list for counseling appointments. If you are seeking counseling we are happy to provide you with names of counselors in the area or put you on our waiting list. We only schedule our counseling appointments out 2 months so we will be working from our waiting list to fill appointments as they become available. Please call our Care Coordinators if you have behavioral health concerns, want to schedule with a counselor or have an urgent behavioral health issue. We will work with you to find the best option for you and your child. Thank you for your understanding.

New Flu Clinics

It is time to schedule your flu vaccine. This year's flu clinics are now open. The hours are 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, Oct. 1st, 15th, and 22nd. We ask that you bring your child in a short sleeve shirt so we can move people thru the line more efficiently. You can print off your consent form from our website and fill it out before you arrive. The flu shot is recommended for all, from 6 months of age and up. We also have the flu mist available. Please call and schedule your appointment as soon as possible to get the day and time you prefer.

New Options for Great Providers

When scheduling your appointments remember we have some new providers you can schedule with. Dr. Jill Schaffeld has started seeing patients at our Crestview Hills and Mt. Zion offices so you can schedule with her for well or ill visits at this time. Dr. Jess Gardner has a schedule with us starting in August. As mentioned in last month's newsletter, Dr. Emily Grad starts with us in September. We are so excited for you to meet these great new doctors who share the commitment to your child’s health that you expect at Pediatric Associates.

COVID Vaccine and Young Patients

The FDA and CDC have authorized the use of the Pfizer AND Moderna vaccine for young children and babies down to age 6 months. We have the vaccine on order for our patients and will be able to make appointments for it as soon as we receive our shipment. There are many people who will say that kids do not get sick from COVID. While kids do tolerate the infection much better than adults, most people do not realize that the past two years of COVID have been harder on kids than the worst flu years in terms of hospitalizations and mortality. And kids are very proficient at spreading COVID. Both vaccines have shown efficacy and excellent safety records. For these reasons, we will be vaccinating the youngest members of our own families. Feel free to contact us if you have questions and look for an announcement soon on when you can schedule an appointment to have this potentially life-saving shot.

Pharmacy Updates

Many pharmacies are now dealing with staffing shortages. This has resulted in longer waits for prescriptions and shorter hours, especially on weekends. If you need a prescription in the evenings or on weekends please verify your pharmacy hours. Also we have learned that Kroger Pharmacy no longer takes GoodRx coupons but have started their own medication savings plan.

Monkeypox: Something Else to Worry About?

For a pandemic weary world, the prospect of another strange virus spreading around the world can be unsettling. Monkeypox, an endemic illness in West and Central Africa, has been recognized in several countries around the world and many of the cases do not seem to be related. What this means is that it has probably been here longer than we initially thought. Fortunately, the strain being seen outside Africa is the less dangerous version. We are not saying to run out and have a monkeypox party with an infected friend, but this is not an infection to panic over. CDC is watching the outbreak closely and, while it is widespread, it is not causing many bad infections and risk is felt to be low to the general US population. You can learn more about monkeypox here .
