Please join us in congratulating Dr Carace MacKay for her 15 year anniversary at Pediatric Associates. Carace has deep ties to the area having grown up in Northern Kentucky and returning for training at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital residency. Lucky for us she worked with Dr Eric Bosley in the office during residency and it was a no-brainer to offer her a job after graduation. Carace is extremely thorough, kind, compassionate, patient, and hard-working. She often takes on difficult tasks behind the scenes to help us move forward with quality improvement projects, behavioral health initiatives, our social media, our electronic records, and so much more! In her spare time she enjoys the outdoors and watching her boys play sports. We are blessed to have her in the office!

AI Companions and Teens: What Parents Should Know
A new report from Common Sense Media highlights the growing use of AI companions among teens. Based on surveys of U.S. teens ages 13–17, 72% reported using AI chatbots on platforms like CHAI, Character.AI, and NOMI, and 24% said they’ve shared personal information—often retained by these companies.
Parents are encouraged to talk with their teens about these platforms, asking open-ended questions without judgment. It's important to watch for signs of overuse, such as social withdrawal or choosing AI interactions over real-life relationships. The report also warns of risks like privacy concerns, exposure to inappropriate content, and misleading or harmful advice. AI companions are designed to offer constant agreement, which can distort teens’ understanding of real relationships. They should not be seen as a replacement for mental health support. As Halloween approaches, we want all our families to enjoy a fun and safe night of costumes and candy! Remind your children to stay visible by using glow sticks or flashlights, and stick to well-lit neighborhoods, ideally with sidewalks. Always check treats before eating them and avoid anything unwrapped or homemade from unfamiliar sources. Costumes should fit properly to prevent trips and falls, and masks shouldn’t block vision—consider face paint instead. Dress for the weather! Check the forecast and adjust costume accordingly so they're not too hot or cold. For younger children, an adult should always accompany them, and older kids should travel in groups with a set route and curfew. With a little planning, your family can have a spooktacular and safe Halloween! Happy Halloween from all of us here at PANK!

Pediatric Associates has the new COVID-19 vaccine for children. These vaccines can be provided for children ages 6 months and older. These vaccines can be provided at scheduled well visits or at a nurse visit.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends
the COVID-19 vaccine for all children age 6 months through 23 months old. Children this age are at highest risk for severe COVID illness. It also recommends the vaccine for children age 2 through 18 years old who are in any of these risk groups below.
• They have never been vaccinated against COVID-19.
• They live in a long-term care facility or another group setting.
• Others in their household are at high risk for severe COVID-19.
If your child isn't in one of these risk groups but you still want them to get the vaccine, a single dose of the COVID vaccine might be a good option. The AAP recommends that any child whose parents want them to get a COVID shot should have easy, free access to it.
