Dr. Emily Grad joined us this month! We are so excited for you to meet her. She completed her residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Dr.Grad has a special interest in newborn care and breastfeeding medicine, but her favorite part of pediatrics is connecting with families and watching children grow.

COVID Booster and Scheduling Update
The new bivalent COVID booster is in. Appointments can be scheduled for all patients 12 and up for this new booster vaccine.
We recommend this new bivalent booster for our patients 12 and older. This is an updated booster that protects against the newer strains of COVID, including the recent Omicron variants. Just as the flu vaccine is recommended annually to protect against the recent strains of flu, we anticipate the COVID vaccine having an annual booster moving forward. Getting this vaccine will help keep our children and young adults healthy and, if they do get COVID, the vaccine will help prevent severe illness and hospitalization.

In response to recent requests, we have expanded our availability to schedule for all COVID vaccines. There are now multiple afternoons available for all of the COVID vaccines as well as mornings for the 6 month to 4 year olds age group.
Please call the office to schedule your initial or booster vaccines to keep your children and the community protected from COVID.

We had a great time at the annual Buddy Walk benefitting the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati. It is always a moving and fun event and we enjoyed seeing some of our patients and families and our friend Dr Mark Deis!

It is time to schedule your flu vaccine. This year's flu clinics are now open. The hours are 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, Oct. 1st, 15th, and 22nd. We ask that you bring your child in a short sleeve shirt so you can get in and out of our office more quickly. You can print off your consent form from our website and fill it out before you arrive. The flu shot is recommended for all, from 6 months of age and up. We also have the flu mist available. Please call and schedule your appointment soon.

If you need paperwork from our office you can save a trip by asking us to upload the completed document to the patient portal. If the form is unique or has questions you need to answer you will still need to drop the form off at one of our locations. After that you can get the document from your home from the portal. This also allows you to access the document in the future if it is needed for a winter sport or any other activity. Just let us know that you prefer to get your document from the portal and we will save you a trip to the office.
Don't forget that the portal has visit summaries, growth charts, immunizations, medications, allergies, and medication refills at your fingertips.

Tongue Ties and Lip Ties – When Should You Worry and Who Should You Consult?
Sometimes tongue-tie may not cause problems. Some cases may require a simple surgical procedure for correction. The gold standard procedure (frenotomy or frenulectomy) uses a spatula device to lift the tongue and simple scissors to cut the thin webbing underneath. This can be done by pediatricians in the birth hospital or office, and causes minimal pain or bleeding. Some dentists offer laser surgery at very high prices to remove the webbing. We have seen babies in severe pain after this procedure sometimes resulting in oral aversion (refusing to eat).
